A major in statistics, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science, requires the completion of a common core along with 18 hours of elective credits.

Core Courses

    • CALCULUS:
      • MAT 129: Calculus I (4 credits) and MAT 229: Calculus II (5 credits)
        or
      • MAT 128: Calculus A, MAT 227: Calculus B, and MAT 228: Calculus C (3 credits each)

    • MAT 194: Mathematical Sciences Seminar (1 credit)
    • STA 250: Probability and Statistics I (3 credits)
    • STA 314: Design and Analysis of Experiments I (3 credits)
    • STA 341: Statistics II (3 credits)
    • STA 360: Statistical Computing (3 credits)

Electives:

  • Nine of the eighteen elective credit hours must be courses above the 300 level with the STA designator. The remaining electives may be courses with the MAT designator numbered above 300 (or MAT 234), or appropriate quantitative courses from other departments.

  • The latter courses must be approved by the chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department. Elective courses will depend upon a student's interests. Students should choose their electives after discussions with their advisor.

Double Major:

  • A double major in mathematics and statistics consists of satisfying the degree requirements of both majors with a minimum of 58 credit hours of courses applicable to either major.
